The turnaround of Arvind Fashions Ltd, a listed company of nearly Rs. 4000 cr in size, was noticed by all of us. Arvind Fashions became PBT positive in the first year of operations under his leadership. Before that, he had executed a very sharp turnaround of the Calvin Klein business which he took over in mid – 2017. The way his team glamourize Calvin Klein with better fashion sense, better quality visual merchandising, better retail experience and the very well known tie up with Disha Patani have been all very awe inspiring. His sense of cleaning up fashion businesses has been seen by all at Arvind Fashions as well as with Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein. Nagesh has contributed significantly in ushering modern retailing in the country. He stepped out of the role of MD in Shoppers Stop Limited in 2009 at the age of 50 to start TRRAIN to fulfill his personal belief of 25 years of learning, 25 years of earning and 25 years of returning. He is the Non-Executive Chairman of Shoppers Stop Limited. He is also the founding Chairman of Retailers Association of India. RAI was set up in 2004. He stepped out of RAI in 2021. Mr. Nagesh has been recognized as an iconic retailer and was inducted into the World Retail Hall of Fame 2008 at the World Retail Congress 2008 conducted in Barcelona. With his induction in the World Retail Hall of fame 2008, Mr. Nagesh is the only Indian retailer and the first Asian retailer to take a significant place alongside more than 100 stalwarts of the global retail industry. He is the recipient of the Hellen Keller award for being a role model in creating livelihood for Persons with Disability. He is also nominated as an Ashoka Fellow. In mid-February 2012, Siddharth struck a deal with a large manufacturing company to sell their leftover fabrics. However, a sudden audit by the company resulted in a delay in dispatching the stocks. The buyer, unable to wait, cancelled the deal, leaving Siddharth in a challenging situation.
With limited savings and a loan from a friend, Siddharth found himself with a surplus of fabric that others were offering to buy at significantly lower prices. Determined to overcome this setback, Siddharth decided to convert the fabric into shirts. Despite having no prior knowledge of production, patterns, or materials, he managed to find a factory in Bangalore willing to do a trial order of 500 shirts. This marked the turning point in Siddharth’s journey, as the shirts were well-received by a retailer in Mumbai, who subsequently placed additional orders.
Building Snitch:
Siddharth’s ability to source high-quality fabric and design standout products became Snitch’s unique selling proposition (USP). Starting with just one retailer, Snitch quickly expanded its customer base to include over 100 retailers and large brands across India. Over the years, Snitch garnered a reputation for its manufacturing capabilities and expertise, serving as a trusted partner for 12+ years before the launch of the Snitch brand.
Navigating Challenges and Expanding Horizons:
